Fly high with Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in

Good news Folks.  The Yoast SEO 3.3 has just been released a few days back.  The team of Yoast headed by Joost De Valk has walked the extra mile including many features previously made available for a premium.

I am yet to subscribe to any newsletter from the Yoast.  I am therefore not in a position to get any notifications of sorts from them through e-mails.

I came to know about it when the topmost bar of my word press dashboard caught my attention about the latest version of their famous plug-in.  Yoast SEO 3.3.

In the immediately preceding post on Yoast SEO 3.2 plug-in, I have discussed in details about various features of the plug-in including content analysis by Yoast SEO plug-in and focus keyword.

But that post was restricted to features available with Yoast SEO 3.2 version.

However, it seems that to the top of already existing facilities, the Yoast team has included some more interesting features to this latest version.  Yoast SEO 3.3:

Therefore, this unavoidably warrants a review of the tool.


In the latest Yoast SEO 3.3: version, unlike the previous one, there are two tabs in the meta box.

The content analysis tab first and SEO friendly analysis tab.  The plug-in lays more emphasis on content quality before SEO compliance.

The Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in wants its users to satisfy the following criterion, its makers think are essential ingredients of quality content.

It is undoubtedly perceivable to all in the blogosphere that your effort, dedication, knowledge etc determine the quality of your content.  The plug-in can in no way help also.

However, the team of Yoast is of the view that there are still many aspects of content quality which can be taken care of while writing a content. From the screen shot above, it is clear that the content analyzation feature has 06 new criterions in all.


The Yoast SEO 3.3 forbids usage of 300 or more words in a paragraph accompanying any subhead and therefore suggests breaking down into more paragraphs and adding more subheads.

The team of Yoast has valid reasons for doing so. This is to discourage writing long textual content. The online audience actually never read your posts.  They usually skim through your content.   Moreso, if your content runs continuously.  This can be avoided if you write in short paragraphs.

Keeping this in mind, team Yoast wants content writers to keep their word count within 300 words in each paragraph.  So, if you want your want engaging visitors in your site, you should stick to these rules religiously.


The Yoast team takes strong exception of the presence of long sentences in your content.  A sentence containing 20 or more words is considered a long sentence.

It calculates if the percentage of such sentences containing 20 or more words has exceeded the threshold of 25% in the whole blog post.

Likewise, the Yoast are of the opinion that each para should not contain more than one such sentences.  (source)

This is attributable to the fact that your blog audience loves to read short sentences.  Short sentences containing less than 20 words are easier to interpret.  Besides, your audience will never have that level of patience to read long sentences.

Guys at Yoast are aware of your audience’s reading habits.  Apart from this, Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in wants you to write in conversational style.  Writing short sentences Conversational style of writing And hence this suggestion.


As per the standards set by the readability tool, stress is laid on the following:-

(i)         Easiness of your content.  And therefore, this tool discourages usage of complex sentence structures, hard words, long sentences, syllable, lengthy paragraphs, some of which I have discussed in preceding paragraphs. And accordingly, vets your content.

While a score of 81 – 100 is considered pretty easy, scores in between 60 – 79 is treated as OK.  The Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in mimics the scores of this tool after assessing your content.

The aim of the plug-in is to ensure longer reader engagement and lower bounce rate, without interfering with the usual reading habits of your blog audience.


As per the University of Wisconsin – Madison, transition words are those word/phrases which create powerful links in your paper(read content) and help your reader the logic of your paper(your content).

It helps construct meaning.  Logic, perception, the tempo of the foregoing paragraphs, sentences are passed on to the final sentences in paragraphs through these words or phrases.

So the Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in makes it’s a point to maintain a minimum threshold of 30% transitions words of the total word count.


The Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in ensures minimum usage of passive voice.  You should, therefore, not write your posts in passive but in the active voice, as much as possible to get an approval in the form green dot.

Reasons for the writing in active voice:-

(a)          You should use active voice because you have to write your blogs in a conversational style.  Your readers should feel that you are talking to them.

But sentences in passive voice cannot directly connect you psychologically with the audience.   So, you should avoid using them as much as possible. SOURCE


On the lines of basics endorsed, the Yoast SEO 3.3 provides an eye like button against said criterions –   passive voice, sentence length and transition words(as shown in the first screenshot by red arrows).

When the buttons are clicked, the plug-in automatically highlights the areas in your content which have the foregoing conditions.  The screenshot above shows the highlighted areas.  You can carry out necessary changes in those areas of your content.


You can see that in this version, the Yoast team aims at adhering to the basics of on page optimization and online writing.  I have dwelled on the SEO part in my previous post.

As regards content analysis of Yoast SEO 3.3 plug-in, the team sees to it that the basics of the informal or conversational style of writing are maintained throughout the content.

No matter how much difficult a task it might have been, the Yoast SEO 3.3 has gone a long way in influencing the web writing.

However, as mentioned earlier in the post and is reiterated now that, even if basics fall in place, can Yoast team influence the quality of information your content contains?
